The first gold medal for Belarus on Winter Olympic Games in Sochi was won by Darya Domracheva in 10 kilometer biathlon pursuit. This is the first Winter Olympic gold medal for Belarusian team this year and the second one in the history of Belarus after separating from USSR.
Darya Domracheva was qualified 9th for the pursuit and started the race in 32 seconds after the leader. She missed one of the targets in the final shooting but had enough time to go through the penalty loop. The second place and silver medal was taken by Tora Berger from Norway. She crossed the finish line only 37.6 seconds after the winner.
After the competition Domracheva said that she was very grateful for the support from her fans during the race.
