Belarus was known as “the land of castles” from the written accounts of the European travelers of the Renaissance. Unfortunately, the events of the 20th century that turned our country into a battlefield irreversibly erased most of this heritage except several castles including the former noble residences: Nesvizh Palace with Park Complex and Mir Castle.

Before we see the main residence of the Radziwills – formerly a high-standing family of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania – we will visit the Town hall square of Nesvizh and take a look at the Cathedral of the Divine Body – the third largest burial vault of a noble family in Europe.

This week in the beginning of November the Blue metro station in Minsk got extended and 3 more stations opened. New subway stations – Grushevka, Mihalovo and Petrovschina were designed each in its own way. They connect Nezavisimsti Avenue with the southwestern part of the city. President of Belarus took part in the opening ceremony. He reported that every 1 km of the new line costs 50 million USD and the government will continue developing public transportation system in Minsk.

This street has become one of the most popular in Minsk because of various reasons. Named so after Karl Marks in 1922, it comprised one of the most interesting and outstanding buildings from the architectural point of view. What is remarkable, even though during the Second World War the whole Minsk was ruined, few buildings were saved and some of them are now situated on Karla Marksa street.

The street is rather narrow and reminds the pedestrians of old European cities. The traffic is not that bad, even though there are always lots of cars standing beside the pavement. There are many small shops and restaurants in this street, which make it very lively.

Among foreigners, who come to Belarus, there exists a myth that traveling by train is slow, expensive and, moreover, inconvenient. That is why most visitors rent a car to drive to this or that town. As it turns out, traveling by train is more convenient and much cheaper. The railway system in Belarus is highly developed: you can go by train to every city in every region, no matter how small it is. So, it is barely a problem to travel to any city, even if it is situated on the opposite side of the country. The timetable of the railway stations is pretty convenient: morning, day and night trains are available for people.

Today it is impossible to imagine a modern life in the city without the service of taxi. This topic is particularly important for foreigners, who don’t know the city well and have to use taxis rather often. Unfortunately, in Minsk, as well as in other big cities in the world, the drivers, providing the service for foreigners, can sometimes cheat and take much more money than needed.  But, surely, not only tourists suffer from insincere drivers.

Taxis standing near the near night clubs, popular bars and restaurants as a rule, will cost you more than it should be. The drivers of these cars are waiting for people who are lazy to call a taxi themselves.

Two students from Belarus (Artem Stavenko, who is studying at a London college and an Oxford student Cyril Chikeyuk) took part in a famous TV-show on BBC and interested the jury with their invention. This TV-show called "Dragon’s Den" is famous throughout the world. It gives a great opportunity for business amateurs, who don’t have enough money, to develop their own business ideas. The participants present their know-how to the jury, which includes major financiers. If these financiers approve of the invention, they provide the participant with the needed amount of money.

The problem of buying an apartment is really complicated for young people. The newlyweds, young people striving for independence want to have their own property and not to live with their family. Unfortunately, in most cases they cannot afford any realty, because the prices are really high. Today Belarusian architectures suggest a solution of the problem.
